OPQN Series Omnidirectional Planetary Ball Mill
High-Energy Multi-Directional Milling for Advanced Material Processing
The OPQN2 Omnidirectional Planetary Ball Mill is a high-performance laboratory milling system designed for fine grinding, mixing, mechanical alloying, homogenisation and advanced material preparation.
Unlike conventional planetary ball mills, the omnidirectional design introduces additional multi-directional movement during operation. This enhanced motion promotes more effective interaction between the grinding balls, sample material and grinding jar, helping improve grinding uniformity and reduce material settling or dead zones inside the jar.
The OPQN supports dry and wet grinding, as well as milling under vacuum or controlled gas atmospheres when used with suitable vacuum milling jars or vacuum sleeves. It is ideal for universities, research laboratories and materials development applications requiring repeatable and highly efficient sample preparation.

Key Features
Omnidirectional Planetary Milling
The OPQN combines planetary rotation with additional multidirectional movement to provide intensive and uniform grinding. This makes the system particularly suitable for applications where conventional planetary milling may result in uneven material distribution.
Fine Grinding Down to 0.1 μm
Depending on the material and milling conditions, the OPQN can achieve a minimum particle size of approximately 0.1 μm, making it suitable for fine and ultrafine material preparation.
High-Speed Operation
The ball mill jars can operate at speeds of up to 580 rpm, while the main planetary plate operates at speeds of up to 290 rpm, with a disc-to-jar speed ratio of 1:2.
Two or Four Jars Simultaneously
The machine can operate with two or four grinding jars at the same time, allowing multiple samples to be processed simultaneously and improving laboratory productivity.
Dry & Wet Grinding
The OPQN supports both:
This flexibility allows the mill to accommodate a broad range of sample preparation and materials research applications.
Vacuum & Controlled Atmosphere Milling
For materials sensitive to oxygen, moisture or environmental contamination, milling can be performed under vacuum or controlled gas conditions using compatible stainless steel vacuum jars.
A stainless steel vacuum sleeve can also be used to enclose compatible standard grinding jars, including agate, zirconia and PTFE jars, allowing materials to be processed under vacuum or controlled atmosphere conditions while retaining the desired jar material.
Programmable Intelligent Control
Variable-frequency stepless speed control and programmable operation provide greater control over the milling process.
The intelligent control system supports:
- Adjustable milling speed
- Timed operation
- Automatic shutdown
- Automatic forward and reverse rotation
- Intermittent rotation
These functions allow complex milling cycles to be performed automatically and help improve process repeatability.
Up to 72 Hours Continuous Operation
Designed for demanding laboratory applications, the OPQN2 supports up to 72 hours of continuous operation at full load, making it suitable for extended grinding and mechanical alloying processes.
Safety Interlock Protection
The system incorporates limit-switch protection. Opening the lid interrupts operation and stops rotation, providing additional protection during laboratory use.

Why Choose an Omnidirectional Planetary Ball Mill?
Traditional planetary ball mills rely primarily on the planetary movement of the grinding jars. For certain materials and operating conditions, powder can accumulate in particular areas of the jar during extended milling.
The OPQN omnidirectional design adds additional movement to the planetary milling process, continuously changing the orientation of the grinding jars. This helps redistribute the grinding media and sample throughout the milling process, promoting more uniform processing.
The system is particularly suitable for applications requiring:
Fine particle preparation • Intensive mixing • Homogenisation • Mechanical alloying • Extended milling • Controlled-atmosphere processing
